I spent the last month amongst the glitter glam and tinsil of the Christmas season, thinking. Enjoying the smell of pumpkin spice, mulled wine, gifts and lights, reflecting. Friends and family were few this season and I didn't even keep the commitment to myself to make sure I wished everyone a happy holiday.
The holidays are often difficult for some. Breakups, loneliness, even suicide are even part of the season. This season was a specially trying with the storm of Hurricane sandy and also the deaths of the children in Connecticut. But amidst all of that turmoil, there is so much love so very much love. And that is what I want to focus this year on finding.
As an election year it was also quite interesting to watch just how far people would go for their candidates on social media. Indeed it left such a bitter taste in my mouth, I even blocked some of my friends newsfeed. Not unfriend them, just not deal with the negativity that rained all over social media until (as well we knew he would) President Obama was finally nominated.
This particular election was quite interesting. It seems like all the people who made money during these four difficult years of President Obama's term, did not want him to be re elected!!! That's like a oxymoron if ever there was one.
Well I don't want to continue to draw on politics as it is the music industry had a few losses and I wanted to take note of 3 that are special to me. I celebrated the life of Dave Brubeck with my favorite song by him "Take 5" and then I made sure to play Laury Webb's version call tek 5. Laury is a well known local reggae artist in Brooklyn and Queens by the way. Another loss and life celebrated was Ravi Shankar. I had the pleasure of hearing him and his daughter Anushka at Summerstage
Some years ago and it was quite amazing listening to them play the Siktar. Music talent runs in the family Norah Jones is also his daughter.
And so the year ends.
